On last week’s Billboard 200 chart, Taylor Swift scored the biggest week for any album when Fearless (Taylor’s Version), her re-recording of her 2008 sophomore LP, debuted at No. 1. Fearless (Taylor’s Version) represented the first chart-topping album of its kind, as the reworked version of another album (which also reached No. 1, over a decade ago). And with its debut, we were able to begin tracking how the new Fearless would affect listenership of the original Fearless.

Swift’s Fearless (Taylor’s Version) slips to No. 2 in its second week on the Billboard 200, with 57,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending April 22, according to MRC Data. That’s an 80% drop from its debut week, in which its 291,000 equivalent album units marked the biggest total for any album in 2021.

Meanwhile, the original Fearless earned 5,000 equivalent album units in the week ending April 22. Fearless earned 6,000 equivalent album units during the previous week, when Fearless (Taylor’s Version) made its debut.

Here’s a visual comparison of how Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Fearless have performed over the past two chart weeks, in equivalent album units:

As noted last week, there are a number of reasons why Fearless (Taylor’s Version) has a steady lead in equivalent album units over the original Fearless in its head-to-head chart frames, including fan interest, streaming platform placement, and the six additional songs on the re-recorded version — taken “From The Vault” — contributing toward its total units. “Mr. Perfectly Fine,” the highest-charting “From The Vault” song, drops to No. 90 on this week’s Hot 100 chart, from its peak of No. 30.

As the two versions of Fearless continue their chart duel, Swift has revealed that she’s working on the next re-recording of her first six albums, a project that she first announced in 2019. Meanwhile, Swift’s new music continues to unlock chart achievements: “Willow,” her most recent Hot 100 No. 1 hit and the lead single from last year’s Evermore, reached the top of the Adult Pop Airplay chart last week.
