Machine Gun Kelly had the “best night ever” during his Saturday Night Live debut on Jan. 30.
The early morning tweet came after the 30-year-old rapper and singer knocked it out of the park as the sketch comedy show’s first musical guest of 2021.
During the episode, hosted by The Office and Jack Ryan actor John Krasinski, MGK gave memorable performances of songs from his latest album, Tickets to My Downfall, which topped the Billboard 200 last October.
MGK opened with an energetic performance of “My Ex’s Best Friend,” rocking out with his pink guitar alongside his backing band. For his second performance, the bleached-hair star slowed things down with the emotional “Lonely,” a song about his late father, who died last July.
“10 seconds before we played ‘lonely’ on SNL, they came up and said the whole lighting board and set up we had for the performance crashed,” he tweeted the following morning. “so we just had a spot light and the music, that was the best thing that could’ve happened.”
But the unexpected surprises didn’t stop there. During the end credits, an overjoyed MGK got carried away while goofing around with SNL cast members. The musician ended up taking a tumble off the stage while excitedly attempting to pick up his pal Pete Davidson. Luckily, both men quickly got up and laughed it off.
In the hours leading up to the show, Kelly also shared a behind-the-scenes look at the craziness of his entrance into Studio 8H. In a video shared on Twitter, he is seen literally carrying girlfriend Megan Fox into the back entrance while surrounded by cheering fans and paparazzi.
“Good afternoon NYC,” he captioned the clip.
MGK also recalled his past desires to perform on SNL. “i used to chill on Pete’s couch in his office while they’d be recording SNL when i’d come to new york and be like “f—, i can’t wait till they book us to perform,’” he tweeted. now it’s really happening thank you EST and all the fans for this.”
