Mariah Carey re-interpreted her 1996 classic “Always Be My Baby” for the HBO Max animated adaptation of Margaret Wise Brown’s classic children’s book The Runaway Bunny and the singer is, well, Over the Moon, to be part of one of her favorite childhood memories.
“The Runaway Bunny is streaming now on @HBOMax! I loved the Over the Moon book series as a little girl and had so much fun reinterpreting ‘Always Be My Baby’ for the animated version of this classic story! I hope you enjoy it,” she wrote on Monday (March 29) alongside a snippet from the film featuring the gentle acoustic reworking of the track from her fifth album, Daydream.
The Runaway Bunny is a 1942 picture book from Brown (Goodnight Moon) about a baby bunny who threatens to run away from home only to have his mother warn that she will follow him if he does. The hand-drawn animated special debuted on HBO Max on March 25 with narration from Tracee Ellis Ross and music from Roseanne Cash, Ziggy Marley, Kelly Rowland, Rufus Wainwright, Michael Kiwanuka and Kimya Dawson.
“The Runaway Bunny is a timeless classic about youthful independence and the strength of a mother’s love. [Producer/director] Amy Schatz has lovingly brought this story to vivid life with an incredible group of collaborators,” Billy Wee, senior vp of original animation at HBO Max said in a statement.
