On March 12, Selena Gomez dropped her highly awaited Spanish-language EP Revelación, a seven-song set released by Interscope Records, which Gomez says is an homage to her Latin roots.

In addition to executive producers Tainy and Neon 16, a wave of Latin hitmakers — composers Edgar Barrera, newcomers Elena Rose and Kris Floyd, and even CNCO’s Zabdiel de Jesus — helped bring Gomez’s vision to life.

“She wanted us to give life to Selena Gomez in Spanish,” Rose told Billboard. “For it to be a direct translation of who she is when she’s singing in English. She’s all about empowerment, compassion, being a warrior, and being vulnerable. So the lyrics were very important here.”

At the forefront, Gomez reeled in three artists for collaborations: DJ Snake and two Latin superstars she’d never previously worked with, Rauw Alejandro and Myke Towers.

With Rauw, Gomez launched the EP’s second single, “Baila Conmigo,” a rhythmic pop tune with sultry lyrics about dance and desire — despite the language barrier. With Myke, she joined forces for a flirtatious, hip-swaying, downtempo reggaeton track dubbed “Dámelo To’.”

“To be able to work with one of the top female artists in the world was an amazing experience,” Rauw exclusively tells Billboard. “I grew up seeing her, I love her voice and her style. This opportunity is huge — it’s a true blessing to me.”

Born Raúl Alejandro Ocasio Ruiz in Carolina, Puerto Rico, Rauw Alejandro’s essence is inspired by Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and Chris Brown, as well as Daddy Yankee, Wisin & Yandel, and Ozuna. He’s an artist who fuses reggaeton with Latin R&B and is a passionate dancer. “I want to be a showman like Ricky Martin and Michael Jackson,” he previously told Billboard. Rauw was part of some big musical collaborations in 2018, such as Ozuna’s “Luz Apaga” and Alex Rose’s “Toda (Remix),” leading him to debut on digital platforms and reach millions of views. In 2020, the urban star, alongside Colombian pop crooner Camilo, entered the Hot Latin Songs top 10 with “Tattoo (Remix)” peaking at No. 8 on the chart dated Aug. 15.

On the Charts: Rauw has charted 14 titles on Hot Latin Songs, three of which hit the top 10, including “Tattoo (Remix),” “La Nota” with Manuel Turizo and Towers, and “Baila Conmigo.” He also has 10 total entries on Latin Airplay, three of which landed atop the chart. Both of his 2020 albums – Concierto Virtual en Tiempos de Covid-19 desde el Coliseo de Puerto Rico and Afrodisiaco — hit the top 10 on the Top Latin Albums chart.

Myke Towers, born Michael Torres in Puerto Rico’s Rio Piedras, has come a long way since his debut studio album in 2016 and his 2018 hit “Si Se Da,” which put his rap skills and underground hip-hop sound on the map. His music is inspired by superstar Jay-Z and contains honest storytelling inspired by special moments in his life. “My songs are hymns that bring back memories of life, [moments] that impacted my life that I know would impact others,” he previously told Billboard. The Puerto Rican rapper has collaborated with artists such as Bad Bunny, Anitta, Cardi B, Becky G, Wisin, Nicky Jam and, most recently, Gomez.

On the Charts: On Hot Latin Songs, Towers has 16 charted titles, seven of which hit the top 10: “La Jeepeta (Remix),” “Caramelo (Remix),” “La Curiosidad,” “Me Gusta,” “Mi Niña,” “La Nota” and “Bandido.” On Latin Airplay, he has a total of 16 entries, three of which hit No. 1. With his sophomore album Easy Money Baby, Towers earned his first leader on the Top Latin Albums chart, debuting at No. 1 on the Feb. 10, 2020, survey.
