In January of 2021, Duran Duran celebrated 40th years since the release of their debut record “Planet Earth.” How time flies.
On Tuesday night’s blind audition of The Voice, Aaron Konzelman kept the party going with a faithful rendition of another classic from the British alternative rock legends’ well.
The Waco, Texas native introduced his gravely, country tones to Duran Duran’s comeback number from 1993, “Ordinary World,” earning an “oh my gosh” from Kelly Clarkson.
“I loved that you went for the high notes. That was awesome and ballsy and I’m into it,” enthused Clarkson, who surprisingly didn’t hit her red button.
Shelton had an excuse for why Legend beat him to the punch. “My button has a little bit of a delay on it. They’ve been working on it all day,” he quipped.
The 39-year-old contestant’s performance, noted Legend, “was the combination of being raspy and angelic at the same time.”
Shelton then worked his sales pitch, pointing out that he was the only coach still true to his roots, as opposed to his “Hollywood” rivals. It was enough to win Konzelman’s services.
