Tame Impala and Crowded House are giants of the music scene in their respective homelands, Australia and New Zealand.
They’re now officially on the same page, thanks to a new Crowded House remix project.
Neil Finn tapped Kevin Parker to work his magic into new Crowded House release, “To The Island,” which the Perth native duly obliged.
“With all the world upended and nothing in its right place we became curious to hear how our favorite contemporary musicians and record makers might reimagine a Crowded House song,” explains Finn in a statement.
So, he emailed Parker with Crowded House’s version of the song “with an invitation to take it apart and reassemble in his own unique way.”
Happily, enthuses Finn, the Aussie production maestro “really liked the song and it was an absolute delight to hear what he made from it, an exotic fantasy I would call it.”
That exotic fantasy is drawn with eccentric brush strokes and warm psychedelic touches we associate with Parker, along with some fresh island beats.
The Tame Impala remix will be released on 7” vinyl with a previously unreleased remix of the track from another Kiwi outfit, Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Get it from the ARIA Hall of Fame-inducted folk-rock band’s D2C store.
“To The Island” is the second song lifted from Crowded House’s forthcoming seventh studio album, Dreamers Are Waiting, due out June 4.
Crowded House has just completed a national run of NZ featuring a touring party of Finn, Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom, Liam Finn and Elroy Finn.
